Oddford 16 Every Knee Will Bow

Description

And He is, you know. He says every every knee shall bow & every tongue confess He is God, no matter what country (or reality) they come from.

To some who would find this a strange and unwarranted arc: Putting the characters in church is not random. I am not preaching, or imposing anything. In my culture, my upbringing, my identity, church -and to a much larger extent God- are an integral part of life. As Oddford was meant to be our characters simply living their lives, it's only normal and appropriate for me to give them an active spiritual life.

And another thing that's beginning to annoy me. You DON'T really see many Christian Fae in popular stories. The're Druids or Wiccan or Taoist or whatever, but rarely Christian. While human society has moved on to monotheistic and even atheistic societies, Faerie is stuck with primitive polytheism and mysticism. Even Christian fantasy writers tend to shy away from anything like a First Baptist Underground. There were never any Fae or elves who professed the kind of Christianity I'm accustomed to. Not lifeless or restrictive or legalistic. I wanted so see the simple, straight devotion to God I know and see around me. So I wrote it.

This does throw a pretty interesting curve ball in the Sarah/Jareth subplot, I promise. :)

...The reason you do not get Fay who are Christians is because that is a direct contradiction.

Most of the base lore of Faery makes that impossible. The Fair folk, and in this case higher Fay such as Jareth are believed to be either the ancient creators/residents of Ireland known as Tutha De Danann or children of the Mother Goddess Danu, who Fled to the hidden places or the unseen. Else they are fallen Angels who fought against God but then rejected Lucifer and were therefor trapped on Earth unable to go either way. In fact most of the older folk you meet in Ire will tell you such categorically. (My doctoral dissertation was on The Origins of the Fay and Their Temporal and Archaeological Standing. It is more or less a text book in size, I could go on about this for ages)

There for having a Christian Fay is just not logical. I can understand where you are coming from, My mother was Christian and raised me and my siblings thus, my father was raised in a Druidic family, my Aunt is a priestess of the faith and she tutored us hence. I know both sides of the monotheism vs polytheism war quite well.
